Dr. Selim Balcısoy obtained his B.S. in Electronical Engineering from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (ETH) in 1996. He received his PhD on Computer Science in 2001 from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). Between 2001 and 2004 he was Senior Research Engineer at Nokia Research Center Dallas. Dr. Balcisoy co-authored over 60 publications and has been granted with one U.S. patent. His research interests are augmented reality, data visualization and cultural heritage. He is an Associated Professor at Sabanci University, Istanbul since 2004. In 2015 Dr. Balcısoy cofounded Behavioural Analytics and Visualization Laboratory together with Prof. Alex Pentland from MIT Media Lab.

Dr. Balcısoy founded VisioThink, a spatial business intelligence company in 2006. At VisioThink he designed and launched top mobile LBS service, TamNerede, of Turkey together with Turkcell in 2010. Recently VisioThink is active in big data analytics and serving its customers with its flagship geo-analytics product VisioSuite.
